In general, both Mac OS and Windows 11 perform the same functions as most modern computers. However, they each come with distinct advantages. Mac OS is less flexible allowing for a more structured and consistent interface, optimized towards animations and a more high-end feel and experience. Increasingly more common however is Windows 11 which allows for extensive customization and personalizing of every element of the system. Windows also has more compatibility with many software and games. Another angle is stability. It is common knowledge that due to the fact Apple governs and sustains the hardware and software, Mac OS is quite stable compared to Windows and does not have as many vulnerabilities to bug related problems and malware.

On the security side you’re half right. Yes, Mac is far less susceptible to viruses and other attacks. BUT, once a Mac gets infected it’s an absolute horror show because there are also less tools and far less knowledge on how to remove nasty viruses from Macs.

As a software developer compatibility is a big thing for me.. I have had macs in the past.. and they aren't even compatible with themselves, it seems that major OS updates frequently break various applications.. with Windows I have apps that I have written from the 90s that still continue to work even on Windows 11!

I was really hoping this content would be about the difference between the OSs since that is the far more deciding factor for user experience

The lack of a window tiling manager is one of the only thing I really miss on macOS compared to Windows 11 (which really nails it, especially combined with powertoys)

If you hold on the green button that is used to make the screen bigger, it will give you a drop down menu to choose left or right like halfscreens

Regarding security. It was hilarious when you could install kexts (kernel extensions) on macOS for years without any restrictions while on Windows you had to go through a certification by Microsoft (HLK) as well as comply with additional requirement to use digital code signing certificate to sign kernel drivers. So overall when it came to the design of the operating system to prevent malicious kernel code execution Windows was (and still is) a way better and more secure.

You don’t need to fiddle around with the windows on Mac. You can hold the green window button and then swipe to a side (left, right) and it will automatically make the window exactly half
