To be ‘working super hard’ is to channel all of one’s time and energy into the business. It could mean a tremendous toll like relinquishing decent comfort circumstances, working overtime, and being frantically goal oriented. For instance, instead of renting an apartment, one would hire a small office to be sleeping and working, and a shower would be taken at a gym nearby, and a resource base may be only one computer that is enough for the organization to be managed twenty four hours.

#1 work super hard (as you expected from Elon)
#2 Great product ( make your product much better, cant be just better. People don't buy otherwise)
#3 attract great people (you can't do much alone or with low level people)
#4 focus on signal over noise ( focus on and invest in things that matter, that actually develop product)
#5 take risk (while you don't have much responsibility) this shouldn't be as tip for opening a company it was recommendation of Elon for university graduates, LoL

Hard work. A disciplined mind. And also tremendous obsession over what you are doing plus a large amount of accountability will help you to work very hard. Creating a new market where the metrics that matter most are not the ones your competition focuses on is vital to creating a product outside of your competition's space. A good book for this is Blue Ocean strategy. Or you can create a brand new product that is 10x better in the metrics of other products that create the same result. Zero to one is a great book if you want to utilize this strategy. Getting a great team: books about leadership and psychology are must reads. Also the practice of appreciative inquiry with your team is needed. You have to get your team to have skin in the game as well, specially in the beginning. Lastly, focus on having a great customer experience, the best source of marketing is word of mouth.

We can choose between "work smart" and "work hard", but I firmly believe that uber successful people like Elon Musk do both and even work "super harder".
