A number of factors may explain why generic Windows mice do not function effectively on a Mac. First of all, the majority connect through usb-a wired or wireless dongles which are neither practical nor compatible with today’s MacBook usb-c ports. Secondly, functions such as mouse acceleration and gestures that are unique to the Mac are not readily programmable on a generic mouse. Last but not least, since MacBooks are primarily built for the macOS operating system, the built-in trackpad is simply better suited than an ordinary mouse.
