What differentiates marijuana from hemp plants is the amount of THC which is informal for tetrahydrocannabinol. Industrial hemp plants are characterized with containing less than 0.3 percent THC, while the normal marijuana plants have about 15 to 20 percent THC and some types go to even about 25 to 30 percent. THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid responsible for the 'high' sensation one experiences above.

Unfortunately I live in a state that still criminalizes even medical marijuana.  We need to legalize cannabis federally and get past this ridiculous prohibition.

It’s cannabis, not hemp or marijuana. All types are cannabis: sativa, indica, ruderalis.

.... the Spanish American colloquialism "marijuana" has been used by prohibitionists, the ignorant and uneducated for a little more than 120 years ... in 1753 the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus renamed the common hemp plant Cannabis Sativa L. , the "L. " is in recognition to Mr Linnaeus' work in botany aka plant science ...!
